How long have you been in the beauty industry?

Since 2007, so 17 years!

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. I have always been the girliest tomboy and taking care of others has always been a joy to me. Esthetics allowed me to integrate all of that.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I started dipping on the side 10 years ago when my previous spa did a massive price increase. A lot of my clients couldn’t afford it. So I slowly invited a few clients to come over to my setup in the spare bedroom. Originally the goal was to make enough money to cover a bit of the mortgage. Then slowly it became a consistent flow. Cut to a few years later. I now have two babies. I knew this would be the best option to work from home “full time”. Make my own hours. Do the services I want to do. My style. My way. It was the best career decision I could have ever made.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced while running your own business? How do you cope?

Setting boundaries will always be my biggest challenge. It’s hard when you love something so much you don’t want to stay no, or that’s all for today. My second biggest challenge is owning my worth. I know I’m a damn good Esthetician. ( pardon the humble brag) but it’s hard to stand firm on my prices. I want everyone to feel like they can afford quality work. But I can’t keep selling myself short. I’m working on that.

What's your favorite service to perform and why?

Brazilians and Brows baby! I am obsessed with eyebrows. Tinting them. Laminating them. Shaping them! They are my pieces of art. Brazilians have always been my go-to. My bread and butter. I take such pride in clients trusting in me. I make it my mission to give them the best damn time while ripping out their pubic hairs.

What is one business tool that you can't live without?

From a procedure standpoint, it’s Lancets. I need to get those ingrowns! I’m a little neurotic about my Brazilians. It has to be perfect.

How and when did you discover Bushbalm Skincare? Why did you decide to carry us?

A client had mentioned this Canadian-owned product that I would look into about 4 years ago. I instantly fell in love!

Which Bushbalm product is most popular at your salon? Why do you think that is?

Sweet Escape. It smells amazing and actually works!

What do you enjoy most about the Bushbalm Pro community?

The support, the resources, the content dumps. The rewards. I can’t say enough good things about Bushbalm as a whole!

What advice would you give to new estheticians entering the field right now?

Don’t be intimidated by the female anatomy. Love her, respect her. Treat her with the utmost care and kindness.
