Tynisha Nicholas Esthetician of the Month

How long have you been in the beauty industry?

6 years!

What made you want to become an esthetician?

I’ve always been fascinated by the skin, the beauty industry, and what it does for us. When I hit adolescence I suffered from skin issues and I found it challenging to find someone who understood my concerns but also had enough experience with different ethnicities to treat my skin effectively. That’s when I knew that I wanted to become THAT skincare professional that meets each individual client’s needs and was willing to listen to their skin goals.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

It was never top of mind to start my own business, but after working in retail management and being a stay-at-home mom for 2 years, I was ready for a career change. I graduated from Aveda’s Esthetician program and submitted a ridiculous amount of applications but had a hard time even landing an interview. As Mindy Kaling said, “If you don't see a clear path for what you want, sometimes you have to make it for yourself.” My job hunting experience made me realize that maybe there is a different plan in the works and I wasn’t meant to work for someone else, but instead be my own boss. So that’s exactly what I did!

What is your favorite service to perform and why?

This doesn’t come as a surprise, but I love all things involving sugar wax, but if I had to get specific, my favorite and top-selling service is my Fancy Kitty Package. It’s a Brazilian sugar wax with a custom vajacial. I love this service because so many people struggle with damaged skin from using harsh products which end up lowering their self-confidence. Not only does this service help heal your skin, but it has that extra bit of pampering that we all need. I want my clients to leave Sweet 2B Sugared feeling great about themselves both nude and fully clothed. It’s also important to me that they are walking out of the door with the knowledge and tools they need to treat their skin at home.

What is one business tool that you can't live without?

Customer relationship management, also known as CRM is something I can’t live without. I love learning about and keeping in touch with my clients! It’s one of the most important tools because it helps you build relationships with your customers. This leads to better customer service, loyalty, steady sales, and more referrals and will keep your customers coming back over and over again!

How and why did you discover Bushbalm Skincare?

When I first discovered Bushbalm a few years ago, I was instantly drawn to the brand's mission and its inclusive approach to skin care. I'm all about products that are healthy for your skin and effective in treating irritation. Bushbalm's products were the perfect fit. I love the packaging and most products are small enough to keep in a bag but big enough for easy application on the go. They feel like luxury products without luxury prices.

What is the most popular Bushbalm product at your location?

Bermuda oil and scrub. A lot of my clients suffer from ingrown hairs and hyperpigmentation. I’ve tried many different brands, but none have compared to Bushbalm. What really sets them apart is how they feel on your skin after application. They don’t leave an oily residue (like some other brands), which means they won’t transfer onto your clothes and such. It just feels like your skin has been moisturized without any fuss.

What do you enjoy most about the Bushbalm Wholesale community?

The willingness to learn, grow, and always do better. I believe it’s one of the most important characteristics of a successful business. I'm always striving to improve myself, which is why I love being a part of a community that also finds this important.

What is one word of advice you would give to new estheticians entering the field right now?

There's a lot of pressure to be everything to everyone. You want to offer the best service possible, but you also want to make sure that no one feels like they're being "nickeled-and-dimed." You want to be able to do it all and do it well. The truth is, sometimes we can't. If we try to be good at everything, we'll end up being mediocre at everything. Focus on perfecting one set of services and offering them in a way that speaks true to your mission and you’ll flourish.
