Meet Barbara Fonseca, the owner of Casa Glow Brazilian Wax & Skincare (@casaglowbrazilianwax) in North Carolina. Barbara is a licensed Master Esthetician with four years of experience in the industry. Her passion for esthetics began at a young age and grew into a career rooted in precision, integrity, and exceptional client care. Known for her expertise in Brazilian waxing and eyebrow shaping, Barbara is committed to delivering high-quality results that help clients feel confident and comfortable. What inspired you to become an esthetician?
What inspired me to pursue a career in esthetics began at a young age. At 12 years old, I started receiving facials to help manage teen acne, and that experience sparked my passion for skincare. Later, at 19, I was introduced to waxing, and it became clear that this was the path I was meant to follow within the esthetics industry.
Why did you decide to start your own business?
I chose to open my own business because I genuinely love the work and wanted the freedom to practice with purpose and integrity. Building and training my own team allows me to uphold the highest standards and deliver the best possible experience—done my way, with care and intention.
What is your favorite service to perform and why?
My favorite services to perform are Brazilian waxing and eyebrow shaping, as they require precision and a strong attention to detail. There is something incredibly rewarding about perfecting these services and seeing the confidence, comfort, and sense of beauty they bring to my clients.

Tell us about the biggest challenge you've faced while running your own business. How do you cope?
One of my biggest challenges has been navigating slower seasons, particularly during the winter months. During these periods, I focus on being proactive rather than reactive by increasing my self-promotion, strengthening client relationships, and staying visible both in person and online. Most importantly, I place an even greater emphasis on delivering exceptional, consistent results with every service. By prioritizing quality, education, and client experience, I build trust and loyalty, ensuring that clients continue to return regardless of seasonality.
What business goals have you set for yourself this year, and how do you plan to achieve them?
Looking ahead to 2026, my goal is to continue growing my client base and expanding my business while evolving alongside Bushbalm as my chosen product line. By doing so, I aim to maintain consistent quality, trusted results, and a seamless client experience as my business continues to grow.
What is one business tool you can't live without?
The one business tool I truly can’t live without is social media. It plays a critical role in the growth of my business by allowing me to showcase my work, highlight results, and educate both current and potential clients. Social media also creates a direct line of connection, helping me build trust, strengthen relationships, and engage with my community in real time. Through consistent visibility and authentic content, it amplifies word-of-mouth exposure and continues to drive client loyalty and long-term growth.

What advice would you give to new estheticians entering the field?
The advice I would give to new estheticians is to study as much as possible and never stop learning. The esthetics industry is incredibly vast, so it’s important to focus on building a strong foundation through education and hands-on experience before anything else. Working in the field allows you to refine your skills, gain confidence, and truly understand client needs, treatment outcomes, and day-to-day business operations.
I highly recommend spending time learning under others before opening your own business. Starting from zero teaches resilience, discipline, and respect for the craft. When the time feels right, take the risk, trust the process, and believe in your abilities! Growth comes from consistency, patience, and a genuine passion for what you do.
