July Esthetician of the Month

Meet Brittany Rose

Meet Brittany Rose (@rnbrittanyrose), a skilled esthetician based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with over seven years of experience in the beauty industry. Known for her unwavering commitment to client care and her passion for exceeding expectations, Brittany is on a mission to elevate the spa experience and set a new standard for personalized service.

She is the owner of Beach Haven (@bookbeachhaven)—a studio where comfort, care, and confidence are at the heart of every treatment. More than just a spa, Beach Haven is a sanctuary where clients feel genuinely seen, supported, and at ease.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

In 2018, I was in my fourth semester of college, following a pre-med track. I felt burned out, exhausted, and overwhelmed—like I wasn’t where I was meant to be. Deep down, I had always dreamed of being my own boss and running my own business. So, I began exploring industries where I could be both the expert and the entrepreneur.

As a regular at my local spas, I had a deep appreciation for facials and waxing. But over time, I began noticing gaps in the market. While I enjoyed the treatments, I often left feeling slightly disappointed with the overall experience. That’s when it hit me: I could do this better.

I decided to become an esthetician with the goal of not just meeting—but exceeding—client expectations. I saw a real opportunity to raise the bar in the industry. Today, I strive to be the kind of esthetician I’d want to visit myself: someone who delivers exceptional treatments and leaves clients feeling relaxed, refreshed, and truly satisfied.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I decided to start my own business because I’ve always had a strong desire to take control of my own schedule. With a lifelong passion for spontaneous travel, I knew that working a traditional 9-to-5 under someone else’s direction would never be the right fit for me.

Beyond that, I’m driven by the challenge of building something from the ground up and watching it grow. I love pushing past industry norms to create a better, more thoughtful customer experience. One of my favorite quotes is, “I quit my 9-to-5 to work 24/7,” because it’s so true—entrepreneurship is a nonstop hustle. But despite the long hours, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. Building a business, leading an amazing team, and gaining the flexibility to work from anywhere has made it all worthwhile.

What is your favorite service to perform and why?

The person I was in beauty school would be shocked to hear this—but my favorite service to perform is Sugaring Brazilians! At the time, I was convinced I’d focus exclusively on facials and skincare. I even tried to opt out of learning hair removal because I was so certain it wasn’t for me.

Fast forward to today, and the majority of our work revolves around hair removal—and I absolutely love it. What makes it my favorite is the personal connection: as a client, it was something I used to dread. That experience inspired me to change the narrative. When I started my own business, I made it my mission to transform hair removal into a positive, comfortable experience for every client who walks through my door.

Tell us about the biggest challenge you've faced while running your own business. How do you cope?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in running my own business has been finding the balance between managing daily operations and focusing on long-term growth. As a business owner, you wear a million hats—juggling everything from client appointments and finances to marketing and beyond. It’s easy to get caught up in the constant to-do list and lose sight of the bigger picture.

To overcome this, I’ve built a team of talented individuals who share my vision and are able to take on some of those hats. By trusting others with key responsibilities, I’ve been able to free up my time and energy to focus on high-level strategy and growth initiatives.

I never took a business course before opening my doors, so I fully embrace the fact that I’m learning something new every day. I also remind myself that I started this journey when I was just 19—and that it’s okay to extend myself some grace as I continue to grow.

What business goals have you set for yourself this year, and how do you plan to achieve them?

This year, my primary business goal is to expand by opening additional locations, now that our original spot is running smoothly. I’m incredibly proud of how well our operations are functioning, and I feel confident that we’ve built a strong foundation for growth.

For the next location, I plan to take on a full demo and build it entirely from scratch—something that will be a new and exciting challenge for me, especially since our first three locations were renovated with the help of friends and family.

In addition to physical expansion, I’m also focused on increasing our brand’s visibility and reputation, both locally and online. By building stronger local partnerships, hosting events, and creating more engaging social media content, I aim to grow our reach and solidify our position as the go-to destination for hair removal and airbrush tanning.

This combined strategy—scaling our physical presence while boosting brand awareness—will allow us to grow sustainably and attract an even larger community of loyal clients.

What is one business tool you can't live without?

Ooooh, spreadsheets—I’m a Google Sheets girl through and through! I hated the one Excel class I took in college, but it’s turned out to be one of the most useful skills I’ve ever learned. Honestly, spreadsheets help me run both my business andmy life on a daily basis.

There’s something so satisfying about seeing the numbers click into place and turning raw data into graphs that tell a story. It might sound a little nerdy, but creating visuals from my business data is genuinely one of the most rewarding parts of what I do!

How and when did you discover Bushbalm? Why did you choose to carry us?

After feeling disappointed with other hair removal treatment lines I had previously carried, I discovered Bushbalm while researching effective ingrown hair treatments to offer at my spa. As someone deeply passionate about skincare and always on the lookout for high-quality, natural products, Bushbalm immediately stood out to me.

What truly drew me in was not only the effectiveness of their products but also their commitment to using the finest natural ingredients. Choosing to carry Bushbalm was an easy and confident decision. I firmly believe in offering my clients the best possible skincare solutions, and Bushbalm aligns perfectly with that philosophy.

Since introducing the line at my spa, Bushbalm has quickly become a client favorite. In fact, it was the very first product line I carried where clients consistently returned to purchase more—and that speaks volumes.

Which Bushbalm product is most popular at your salon? Why do you think that is?

The most popular Bushbalm product at our spa is definitely the Nude Ingrown Exfoliating Scrub. It’s a client favorite because it offers the best of both worlds—it exfoliates while deeply nourishing the skin. On top of that, it has a subtle, fresh scent that our clients absolutely love.

We recommend it to nearly everyone who walks through our doors, and it’s earned its reputation for one simple reason: it works. Clients consistently rave about how smooth and refreshed their skin feels after using it, making it a standout staple in our spa offerings.

What do you enjoy most about the Bushbalm Pro community?

Everything! What I love most about the Bushbalm Pro Community is the personalized experience and the genuine “small business” feel they provide. The communication feels thoughtful and intentional—from the personalized emails to the consistent support.

I know I can always reach out to my rep and get a quick, helpful response—whether it’s product recommendations or updates on exciting things coming down the pipeline. That kind of connection and responsiveness makes all the difference.

What advice would you give to new estheticians entering the field?

It may sound cliché, but my biggest piece of advice for new estheticians entering the field is this: never stop learning. The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and staying open to new techniques, trends, and advancements is essential for growth.

For instance, a spontaneous decision to take a sugaring class completely transformed the trajectory of my business—and I’m incredibly grateful I took that leap. You never know which opportunities will unlock your next level.

Also, don’t limit yourself. When I made the decision to leave my pre-med path and enroll in beauty school, I faced a lot of skepticism. People told me I was giving up a “promising” future for something they viewed as lesser. But now, my business is thriving and surpassing anything I imagined possible—both personally and financially.

So here’s the truth: never let anyone define your potential. Keep pushing forward, trust your instincts, and remember—you’re capable of more than you think.
