How long have you been in the beauty industry?

7 years

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

I was inspired to become an esthetician because I wanted to challenge the stigma that big Latina girls, or any girls for that matter, can't feel beautiful. My goal was to help people like myself feel worthy and important, regardless of their size or shape. Attending beauty school provided an escape from my personal struggles, and I fell in love with the field. Meeting new people and building connections is incredibly fulfilling for me.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I decided to start my own business because I saw potential in working solo, particularly in waxing. Previously, I worked for a chain where negativity and limited professional growth were common. The long hours and lack of family time were exhausting. Although owning a business is challenging, it allows me to create an atmosphere where my employees can grow with me and feel appreciated. Having control over my schedule also helps me balance my business and personal life. I'm grateful I took the leap.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced while running your own business? How do you cope?

Even though our business is thriving, I struggle with imposter syndrome. I've been blessed with supportive clients who are honest about their services, but I occasionally feel like I'm not doing enough. To cope, I remind myself that I can only do so much with what I know, and it's never too late to learn from mistakes. Each lesson, whether in service or business, helps me grow and improve.

What's your favorite service to perform and why?

My favorite service to perform, and I believe it's a favorite among many wax specialists, is the Brazilian service. We often have back-to-back appointments with amazing, loyal clients, which gives us plenty of practice to perfect our craft. Brazilian services are our specialty, and they make any client, especially those trying it for the first time, feel confident and empowered. Our goal is to build confidence and make clients feel comfortable in their own skin.

What is one business tool that you can't live without?

Social media is the one business tool I can't live without. I create fun, engaging, educational, and entertaining content to connect with my followers and give them an idea of what Purple Studio Waxing is all about. It’s essential for marketing and building our brand.

How and when did you discover Bushbalm Skincare? Why did you decide to carry us?

I discovered Bushbalm in 2020 through an amazing esthetician, Wax Junkie, on Instagram. I loved that their products are vegan and suitable for all skin types. At the time, I was working for a chain and couldn’t try the products. Once I started my business and it grew, we began a wholesale process with Bushbalm. It was a significant accomplishment for us.

Which Bushbalm product is most popular at your salon? Why do you think that is?

The most popular Bushbalm product at our salon is the exfoliating scrubs. My clients love the results they see between their waxing appointments. The high-quality ingredients and delightful aroma, combined with an affordable price, make these scrubs a favorite.

What do you enjoy most about the Bushbalm Pro community?

I enjoy that the Bushbalm Pro community recognizes and supports small businesses like mine. They provide opportunities to network with other estheticians, which is invaluable. For such a successful corporation to uplift the beauty industry in this way is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed.

What advice would you give to new estheticians entering the field right now?

Be creative and don't hesitate to do things that make you stand out. Be true to yourself and trust your gut. If something doesn’t work out, that’s okay—at least you tried. Strong people skills are crucial. Provide the best customer service, and your clients will appreciate it and stay loyal.
