Jordyn Bailey Esthetician of the Month

How long have you been in the beauty industry?

2023 marks 10 years of being a waxing esthetician! Though I have otherwise been in the beauty space since 2010.

What made you want to become an esthetician?

My original motivation to enter the beauty industry was through makeup. I have a background in fine art and after choosing to not pursue a career in said field, I still wanted to be in a creative industry. Through cosmetology school, I found myself gravitating towards skincare instead, and then ultimately towards waxing. A very roundabout way of finding my niche!

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I think this is true for many, but after emerging from the pandemic lockdowns, going back to work at my then-salon, and having the time to think about it, I really considered what I needed personally and professionally to keep the spark for my career burning bright. I always thought, “oh I’m sure I’ll go solo one day,” and then suddenly, “one day” was here and I was so ready for everything to be entirely *mine.* I’ve never loved my job more than I do now since starting my own business.

What is your favorite service to perform and why?

Brazilians/bikinis and brows! Whatever one’s personal preference on hair removal is, getting a Brazilian/bikini wax is the gift of self-care to oneself, and I love that that’s something I can provide clients with. With brows, I love the technical side of shaping brows based on a client’s features. There is such a personal preference with each client, and it truly can be such a game changer to the face.

What is one business tool that you can't live without?

Tweezers! For obvious reasons.

How and when did you discover Bushbalm Skincare?

Good ol’ Instagram ads. I received Bushbalm ads sometime before I had fully decided to start my own business. I ordered a bottle of Sweet Escape to try and fell in love! Decided then and there that I wanted to share Bushbalm with my clients when I finally started my own business.

What is the most popular Bushbalm product at your location?

Sweet Escape scrub and oil and Piña Colada oil!

What do you enjoy most about the Bushbalm Wholesale community?

I love that there are periodically little treats only for the Wholesale community, and working with/communicating with Bushbalm as a whole. There is so much attention to detail, I swear Bushbalm probably knows every single wholesaler’s name!

What is one word of advice you would give to new estheticians entering the field right now?

Continue your education! Our industry will never stop changing and evolving. Broaden your horizons, add new tools to your tool belt, and be open to it all!

What does International Women's Day mean to you?

While we can and should be celebrating women 365 days a year, it’s a spotlight on the glory that is women. The things that women are capable of physically, mentally, emotionally, professionally, and personally, are vast and often understated and this is a day to raise women up and celebrate everything women as humans are capable of.

Who is your mentor or role model that you look up to?

I truly find it difficult to pick just one woman in my life because all of them have given me or taught me something invaluable that I carry with me. My mother, my grandmothers, my older sister, my best friends, all enrich my life in totally different ways thanks to their differing experiences, outlooks, and what makes them human.

What's your favorite thing about working in a women-dominated industry?

Oh, it’s so cool! I’m personally an independent esthetician and work in a salon suite space, so I am surrounded by other female small-business owners. It’s so inspiring and motivating. There is an old-school toxicity that I think is being weeded out of the beauty industry in this day and age, as well, thanks to women coming up in this industry. There is a sense of community filling cracks - we’re sharing knowledge, celebrating victories, offering support, and creating space for each other because there is room for us all. It’s really exciting!
